Human-on-a-chip: Emulate’s President and CSO Geraldine Hamilton

Emulating the human body

Replicating the cellular micro-environement and integrate the human-body level at the same time is a major problematic for the development of new medicine. Emulating the body functions while keeping the complexity of human physiology is at the genesis of Human-on-chips models. At TEDxBoston, Emulate’s former CEO Geraldine Hamilton demonstrates how scientists can implant living human cells into microchips that mimic the body’s conditions. These “organs-on-a-chip” can be used to study drug toxicity, identify potential new therapies, and could lead to safer clinical trials.
